LIVE BLOG – 20:15 CET
Well in all the preparations for tonight’s show I bet you one of the jobs on the list was not
“Check all participants ACTUALLY want to go to Vienna”
but after last night’s Dramarama in Germany it may just have been top of the list :-) I have no idea what tonight may bring but surely even the selection for the host entry for Eurovision 2015 can not top the farce that presented itself last night. I am a little excited so get yourself settled and we will be off soon x
Well its just taken a quick scan of the green room to confirm I am in for an interesting night, I can see the good the bad and the ugly lined up ready to perform. Some may refer to it as an eclectic mix of characters – I say it looks mad as a box frogs!!!
The Makemakes – Big bang
Wow Status Quo are competing for the ticket to Vienna!!!! I really wanna wave my knickers in the air singing Rocking All Over The World :-) – This song is fun. I love the cool beats. Whether you like this or not there will be at least one part of your body involuntarily tapping or bopping away to this song. Good start – I like it
The Makemakes – I am yours
So it turns out The Makesmakes can do Status Quo AND Hansen as part of their “Stars in your Eyes” repertoire. This was a cool vibe and completely different to their first song. Great contrast and I loved both songs. This is the kind of band I could listen to all day. Love the fact that there is no Austrian translation for Sexy M***** F***** hahahaha.
I’m going with …………………………………….
I Am Yours
Celina Ann – When I fall
WHAT A VOICE ! This is a beautiful balled with a smooth jazzy feel to it. Many will say the contest does not need another ballad but this is head and shoulders above many songs already selected for Vienna. Loved it and she is a great performer. I can’t wait to hear her second offering.
Celina Ann – Utopia
Another great performance by Celina. She unfortunately got the rubbish draw of coming on after THAT performance from Johann Sebastian Bass. Utopia would definitely be a good uptempo number for Vienna however I loved her first song too. This is a tricky one. I’m gonna toss my chocolate digestive to make the call – chocolate side up says Utopia, chocolate side down says When I fall – here goes………………….
Hmmmm i didn’t factor in “hit the table and snap in 2” however both bits landed chocolate side down so my pick is …………………
When I Fall
DAWA – If you return
Errrrrr I really hope they don’t return! Well not with this song anyway. It really doesn’t go anywhere. It starts off with a kind of “bluegrass” rhythm in the background and this continues throughout. Everything stays on the 1 level, the “melody” , the performance. I nipped off for a cuppa and a rich tea for dunking half way through and when I came back it sounded like the song had started again. Sorry DAWA but not a fan – but mmmmmmm lovely soggy biscuit! :-)
DAWA – Feel alive
Ok DAWA failing to make playing the xylophone look cool here. There is an effortless feel to this group’s performance but it also feels like there was not much effort went into either of the songs. You would have thought that competing against yourself to get a song into the next round should be an easy job but i am really struggling to choose either of them. As I have to lay my cards on the table I am going to say………
If You Return
Folkshilfe – Ned au
Well this was a funky little accordion number huh? I used to play in an accordion band however there were a couple of things that got it the way so I had to quit! This would have me bopping around the dance floor but I am not sure how many would agree. I don’t think this song would have Austria repeating their win. I’m going back to my biccies in anticipation of what is to come.
Folkshilfe – Who you are
Ooooh Folks***e are channeling Elaiza – but “Is It Right”?? I think the answer is a definite NO! It just never did it for me and most certainly an acquired taste. I cannot see either of these songs making the cut for Vienna but I have to go with song number 1 for making me boogie so it’s ……………
Ned Au
Johann Sebastian Bass – Monsters
OK ermm sometimes there are no words! Obviously after the success of Conchitta, Austria have decided that facial hair works. Johann Sebastian Bass look like a group of high court judges who got pissed on a Friday after work and decided to get up and give us a song. I was expecting something completely different from this group. The song was almost too cool. I sort of liked it but not in the outrageously emphatic way I was hoping for. They have another song to do so I am still anticipating something special.
Johann Sebastian Bass – Absolutio
YASSSSSSS this is what I was talking about. 3 soprano singing toilet roll covers!! It is what they were missing in their first song. This is just my cup of tea – in fact its my cup of tea, chocolate biscuit and bit of jammy sponge all rolled into 1. Opera meets funk – LOVE THIS , PICK THIS, WANT THIS !!!!!
Wonder what my pick to go through might be ………….
Absolutio
Zoe – My heart
Well Zoe is treating us to a very Disney Style ballad. It’s pretty, it has a good hook but we have heard it all before. This song is definitely Eurovision by numbers and by no means unpleasant but it doesn’t grab you by the throat and say WOW! As for the drummers, if either of them fancy some extra curricular rhythm training then I’m free ;-)
Zoe – Quel Filou
Well our Zoe likes a theatrical little number doesn’t she? This is a jazzy little thing that gets the toes tapping. I feel like breaking out my Charleston moves – ooooops too late I’m already doing the swively feet move :-) This song is definitely her best shot. I could not stop dancing and it piddles all over her first effort. My decision is …………………………….
Quel Filou
Elaine’s Predictions
DAWA – If You Return
Johann Sebastian Bass – Absolutio
Celina Ann – When I Fall
The Makemakes – I Am Yours
Zoe – Quel Filou
Folkshilfe – Ned Au
Actual Results
Celina Ann – Utopia
The Makemakes – I Am Yours
Zoe – Quel Filou
Johann Sebastian Bass – Absolutio
Folkshilfe – Who You Are
DAWA – Feel alive
Oh well what can I say? I only got 50% correct but in my defense I was foiled by the toss of a chocolate digestive when I forgot to factor in the closeness of the table to the toss!!! At least my favourite went through. I struggle to see anything other than Absolutio taking the ticket to Vienna but also very keen on The Makemakes and Celina Ann.
Hope you enjoyed the show peeps – I’m off to scrape the chocolate off a jaffa cake with my teeth – Full Moon………. Half Moon……… Total Eclipse………… :-) xxx

Gawd Elaine, you’re even more hilarious than Garrett, you should do the next interview with Conchita (I’m aware that Garrett would not agree with me, I know his feelings for her). I have picked my favourite to be her successor now, but all I say is long hair and a beard (oops, that’s what we already had last year).
