Sweden – the reviews are in and Sanna Nielsen is a “Hit”. She may have missed out on winning Eurovision 2014 with her song ‘Undo’ however she is riding a Swedish wave of theatrical success.
Sanna Nielsen has taken to the theatre since returning from Eurovision and she has debuted in the role of Lara at the Malmö Opera in the production of the classic ‘Doctor Zhivago’.
The musical is based on the Russian novel by Boris Pasternak. The story, in all of its forms, describes the life of the fictional Russian physician Yuri Zhivago and deals with love and loss during the turmoil of revolution and war.
Lara is the lead female role in the story and is the love interest of Doctor Zhivago. Sanna Nielsen has taken on the iconic role of Lara and the reviews of her début are in.
“True acting is both believable and touching and is Nielsen as Lara …” When Sanna sings the audience are breathless”– Skanska Dagbladet
“Musical onset Nielsen has both depth and bite ….” “This is an unexpected humanity beyond all Melodifestivalen Gloss …”. – Daily News
“Sanna is amazing in her new role. She even does the job the job as a dramatic actor ‘…’ But it is above all in the singing numbers where she impresses. Her solos are beautiful like in a lovely waltz.” She picks up much empathy but above all she dares not let this become a pop and dusty musical. “– Evening Post
