“Portugal are set to return to Eurovision 2014” – were the comments that we read today on-line form Oiktimes.

Portugal – one of our favorite countries at Eurovision over the year – are awaiting their first win at Eurovision. It is long overdue as they have been highly underrated at the contest in our opinion. They were certainly missed at Eurovision this year yet many of Portuguese fans still made the pilgrimage to the contest and Portuguese Television broadcast all of the shows – unlike some contries that were at the contest.

So when we saw the article today claiming their return, you can imagine our excitement. The rumors have not been confirmed officially by their national broadcaster RTP, but we have reached out to them today and are awaiting their confirmation. We will keep you up to date.

To celebrate this “potentially good news” it is only fair that we post 2 classic Portuguese entries from the past.

1972 – Carlos Mendes performed the amazing “A Festa Da Vida”. The song is a regular on ESC Radio and managed to bring Portugal to 7th place with 90 points. It still sounds as good today as it did back then – even though I wasn’t born then but you know what I mean!

Fast Forward to 1991 when the contest was hosted in Rome and the stunning Dulce Pontes represented Portugal with the song “”Lusitana Paixão”. She came 8th that year with 62 points. She certainly should have been further up the leader board. This song still remains a classic Portuguese entry.

So we keep our fingers crossed for a return to Eurovision – and to our communications with RTP.
