Happy Dublin Gay Pride from the team here at Eurovision Ireland. You know that Eurovision was created to bring Europe together after World War II and promote a sense understanding as opposed to violence. That sentiment continues today in the contest on a social, cultural and sexual orientation basis, so we just wanted to celebrate how Eurovision manages to bring people together from all walks of life.

Today Dublin will be thronged with people from the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender and Straight population – coming together for the day and will be “Living a Celebration”. Eurovision still is one of those events that transcends differences in sexual preference across the content. So it is only fitting to start the party off with Rosa from Spain who certainly embodies all that is wonderful about Eurovision and Pride.

One thing that Eurovision and Pride have in common is the purpose to have fun and learn not to judge or take ones self too seriously. It is important to keep “Flying the Flag” for you and your beliefs. Who would have thought that the worlds most watched entertainment television show would bring such diverse and overtly direct social images and references into the sitting room of millions of people.

What Eurovision does is to allow people to express themselves in any way that they want to. Fans of the contest follow suit and make for am extravaganza of a show and events all year round. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and our good friend Ms Sheila Fitspatrick takes this to an another level when he pays homage to Ireland’s Eurovision and Gay Icon Niamh Kavanagh. Sheila is a wonderful advocate of equality in the Irish Pride Community and we pay tribute to him and his social voice.

However the wonderful success of this video that Sheila made was the fact that when Niamh Kavanagh saw the video, she had to meet Ms Sheila – which shows true acceptance as you will see below.

So today we wish the everyone a “Happy Dublin Pride Day” – and remember to have a dance “In The Disco” and celebrate who you are!

Remember that just like you have a Eurovision Family out their across Europe you also have a “Pride” one too and you just haven’t met them yet. For more details on the Dublin Gay Pride Activities and all year round services, follow the below link.
