This afternoon the Town Council of Aalborg voted to withdraw their application to host Eurovision 2014. The Danish broadcaster DR has in its application process stated that 3,000 double Hotel Rooms are required for a city to be considered to host the contest. This stipulation rules out all the cities that had bid for Eurovision 2014 – Herning, Horsens and Fredericia – except for Copenhagen
Now this seems very strange to us as neither Düsseldorf or Malmo would have had 3 thousand double hotel bedrooms in the city centre. Sure one of the primary reasons for Malmo being accepted was its close proximity to Copenhagen. Factor into this that many fans and press who travel to Eurovision tend to rent houses/apartments as they are cheaper and sometimes better located for the Eurovision facilities.
However if Danish TV are seeking 3,000 double hotel rooms, it makes you think that Eurovision is probably going to be back in the Parken Stadium like it was in 2001. If so, let us hope that DR have a more exciting stage and better video screens throughout the stadium planned, as many present in 2001 could not see the artists on stage. On a positive note – it will probably mean that we will all be seated for this outing of Eurovision.
All bids to host Eurovision 2014 have to be submitted to DR in the next 2 days to be included for consideration. What city do you think should host Eurovision 2014?

Both Dusseldorf and Malmo would have 3000 double rooms within a certain distance of the arena – and thats the key factor.
For Malmo, being within 20 minutes of Copenhagen by rail would have been able to include them in their number available. And Dusseldorf does actually have more than 3000 hotel rooms, but obviously the issue was that it was hosted at the same time as that packing conference – therefore they counted the availability in Cologne for the overflow.
Looking into the other bidding cities in Denmark, I don’t think they would be able to meet that stipulation of 3000 hotel rooms. Herning may want to host and are working in conjunction with Aarhus, but the distance would be a big issue.
