Elaine’s view

This is still great. It is a marmite song for some but I have loved it from day 1. The staging of it is brilliant and the guys look like they having great fun which you feel when watching. I just want to get up and dance with them – i wonder if anyone would mind. I have my kilt, would anyone notice the difference? This has to be in the final.

Andrew’s view

This totally reminds me of Athena from a few years ago, lots of energy on stage and a very similar song. It comes together so well on screen and the vocals are fine too. All the guys are in black and white outfits and wearing kilts. This will sail into the final.

Garrett’s View

Just when you think the performance could not get any better – the Greeks have just done it. They are all in Black kilts and t-shirts with white trimmings. If this is not striking enough they now black out the stage and their guitars have a luminous white edges. The energy that they bring to the performance is electric. This is one to watch as it has shot up in the estimations.

The styling of Moran’s dress is the biggest problem with this performance. It is so distracting. The song is not my type of song but with different staging I could look past that and see that she is a brilliant singer but everything about her dress is wrong. There is no need for it to be slashed to her waist. It enhances the size of her thighs and the piping on the dress doesn’t sit straight as the dress looks too tight. It is a real shame as Morna has a great quirky look and a fantastic voice and all this is overshadowed by the staging. It could still be a borderline qualifier as the juries will like the song but it could easily be on the wrong side of 10th place on Thursday night.

Andrew’s view

A simple staging of this song here which totally enhances it, the vocals are great and I would expect this to do rather well, the only negative perhaps is the look of the dress. It looks elegant enough but makes Moran look rather frumpy. A borderline qualifier.

Garrett’s View

Moran has an amazing voice and she can command your attention with her eyes. However one has to ask the stylist what are they doing with Moran. Her dress is becoming more the talking point rather than the song. It is very unflattering as it appears to be extremely tight. When the camera does a 360 degrees shot of Moran the backing of the dress is very ill fitted and people on the press centre were commenting on it. Anything that detracts you from the song should be amended. A restyling needs to take place immediately. As it stands this presentation is risking a good song not making the final.

Elaine’s view

I still kinda like this. Does not seem to be a popular choice in the press centre but i like the simplicity of it. I like that they are an established group and are comfortable on the stage together. The song is not a face slappingly good one but it is decent and has a nice melody. I have this down as a qualifier. Only Thursday night will tell.

Garrett’s View

Dorians back on stage for Armenia. What I do like about this act is that they are real band and have an authentic quality to their performance. You can tell that they have been together for several years as they have good chemistry with each other. Good camera angles add to the performance. The song itself though, I am not convinced that it will have an instant appeal with a wide enough audience. In a close run semi-final they will be in a fight for potentially a final qualifying place.

Andrew’s view

One of the few genuine rock songs this year and I love a good rock song. This is not a good rock song though as it plods along at its pace and goes nowhere. There is no energy about the performance on the stage or on camera. A bit of smoke and some fire towards the end but this should not qualify.

Lovely song from Hungary. I find myself singing Mish Mosh Mash throughout the day like a crazy lady. The performance is very similar to the 1st rehearsal except the guitarist is much more animated which makes a real difference. They had tried the distant, moody look on Thursday but it had ended up looking disinterested and bored. It is more engaging now to the viewer but still not convinced it can qualify.

Andrew’s view

I love this song. The staging has words on the screen as well as cartoon characters taken from the preview video. The setting is also simple , one female backing singer and guy with a guitar. This is sung well vocally and has a certain charm about and really hope this transfers to enough of the people voting for it. Possible qualifier.

Garrett’s View

I am looking at Hungary and thinking that this could be a surprise package in Semi Final 2. The 3 members of ByeAlex look as though they are having fun on stage – especially the female backing singer who is totally engaging. Alex himself is still brooding and it looks very cohesive. I think this may just sneak into the final and that would be a nice surprise.
