SVT have announced that French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier will design Eurovision Host – Petra Mede’s – dress for Eurovision. Mede and Christer Bjorkman have already met with the French Style Icon and Eurovision Fan already and discussed concepts for Petra’s outfits. Gaultier’s team contacted SVT to suggest working together.
Jean-Paul Gaultier has a very strong affinity with Eurovision. Pictured above is the dress he designed for Eurovision Winner 1998 Dana International. She wore this dress for her reprise performance of “Diva”. She kept all of Europe waiting while she changed into the dress. When Dana International returned to Eurovision in 2011 in Düsseldorf – there was only 1 designer that she wanted to work with so again she turned to Jean-Paul Gaultier to design her dress.
Gaultier has dressed many Eurovision stars including Greece’s Sakis Rouvas and Anna Vissi to name but a few. Last year his skills were called in to design the dress for French Eurovision artist Anggun.
So Petra Mede will be Jean-Paul’s next Eurovision muse. We know that she is not afraid to experiment with fashion as we have seen over the years. What can we expect? Will it be inspired by the “We Are One” logo and the Butterfly Imagery. One can only guess but we are sure it will be interesting to say the least.
We could not finish up this article without showing you the feathered Eurovision dress of Dana International from 1998.
