VRT, Dutch-language Belgian national broadcaster, have confirmed participation, at the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, in Burgas.

VRT have confirmed participation at the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, in Burgas, following a request for an extension from the EBU, the European Broadcasting Union, to decide on its participation. Frederik Delaplace, CEO of VRT, had the following to say:

“We did well to put a lot of pressure on the EBU to make changes possible. We have received a clear commitment from the EBU leadership that changes will be felt. VRT has noticed in recent weeks that the EBU is now taking its members’ concerns seriously and is working on the future of Eurovision.

It was not an easy decision. We have a lot of empathy for those who disagree with this.

Participation is in no way an endorsement or normalisation of what is happening in Gaza and the rest of the world. We do note, however, that the EBU is no longer shying away from difficult social and geopolitical issues. That is why VRT wants to continue supporting the search for a restoration of what Eurovision stands for, because the search is not finished.

This decision was taken by the entire Executive Board and Board of Directors and discussed with everyone. We came to the conclusion together that this was the best decision.”
