#OBITUARY: Peppino di Capri

Italian entertainment legend Peppino di Capri has died at the age of 86. Born Giuseppe Faiella, he had been singing for audiences for some eighty years, starting with entertaining American troops on the island of Capri from the age of four.

by 1958 he was performing professionally in the band The Rockers, singing in Neapolitan and regularly having hits in Italy, including Nun è peccato…

Peppino jointly holds the record for the most appearances in editions of the Sanremo music festival, with 15. He won twice, in 1973 with Un grande amore e niente più, and in 1976 with Non lo faccio più.

Of course, he also performed in Eurovision, at the 1991 edition in Rome. Ironically, he wasn’t selected as a result of Sanremo success, but his was an internal selection. His song Comme e ddoce ‘o mare was performed in Neapolitan and was last in the running order. Maybe a fitting place to perform for a legend like Peppino. He finished seventh.
