El País, Spanish national media, is reporting that there is a possibility of Catalan participation at the Eurovision Song Contest.
El País has revealed that sources close to 3Cat says there is a possibility for Catalonia to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest if Spain continues its boycott. El País had the following to say:
“3Cat admits that membership does not entitle one to participate in Eurovision, although they are aware that this possibility would arise if RTVE refused to participate again, as it did during the last edition, in protest against Israel’s participation.”
3Cat became one of the FIRST EBU Ancillary Members last month. However, having Ancillary Membership doesn’t entitle participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. A spokesperson for the EBU had the following to say:
“RTVE are a full member of the EBU, which has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest and built a national brand over the years. They retain all rights to participate.”
