#BIRTHDAY: 26 June – Stefán Hilmarsson from Iceland is 60

As we often say, some performers can’t get enough of Eurovision. They need to be on the stage. But with that, maybe they don’t want to be on stage alone. That where you get the serial duetist.

In 1988, when they were still new to the game, our friends in Iceland sent Beathoven to Dublin. One of this duet was today’s birthday boy Stefán Hilmarsson. They gave Iceland their third 16th place finish in a row. Quite a record. Not undaunted, Stefán came back three years later with another pal – Eyjólfur Kristjánsson – to try and emulate their country’s success (of sorts) a year earlier. It didn’t happen, but S & E did finish 15th. So in that regard, Stefán could claim a win. But they were on second, so imagine if they’d performed later, they might have finished 14th.
