Eurovision 2024: Roundup of Day 3 of Rehearsals in Malmö

Today has seen the third day of rehearsals in the Malmö Arena, this time the acts who will participate in the first half of Semi Final 2 on 9th May getting their first opportunity to grace the Malmö stage . As has been the case with previous years, the first and second set of rehearsals are closed to the press .However, you can see snippets of the rehearsals and artists on TikTok during the week of the first rehearsals and in the second week you can see snippets of the rehearsals on the official Eurovision You Tube channel .Today saw Malta opening proceedings , followed by Albania , Greece ,Switzerland , Czechia , Austria,Denmark with Armenia closing the day .

Here are some clips taken from Tik Tok today with my initial reactions after watching the actual footage myself on TIK Tok , however please do bear in mind that the clips are not of the full performances and we await the second set of the rehearsals where we may get more of an idea of how the performances will look in full .

Malta

Sarah is dressed in a short silver outfit , flanked by four male backing dancers . As with the National Final , there’s lots of acrobatics, breakdancing and then pyros on stage . Green seems to be the favoured colour with the LED backdrops. From the snippet I have seen, it’s choreographed to within an inch of its life , no doubt about that. I can’t help but feel that we are seeing Chanel 2022 all over again but just a different face ! Will be able to say more when we get to see the full performance

Albania

Besa’s outfit has a rather futuristic look about it , as if it could easily have come from some science fiction movie . Skin -tight blue/black trousers with matching half cut top , which what looks like string wrapped around the waist .There’s two backing dancers and 3 female backing dancers accompanying Besa on stage .Like many of the acts so far they have made full use of LED effects there’s images of several people dancing . This is definitely going to be worth a watch when we get the full performance.

Greece

This has been getting much hype on social media since the song was released and Marina Satti has certainly brought a flavour of Greece with her to Malmö .There’s three male backing dancers and one female. There’s Greek style dancing .Marina is wearing a short purple skirt , with purple top and black heeled boots . Her backing dancers are in black . LED effects have graffiti elements to them.Another act choreographed to within an inch of its life .

Switzerland

The one that I think everyone has been waiting to see .Nemo is dressed in a pink and white fluffy jacket with a short peach coloured dress and fur boots . I am sure this will be a talking point amongst press and fans alike in the next week. I thought that Nemo may have done something similar to their preview video but they’ve gone for a dark staging with neon white and blue lighting. There’s a large, white , circular prop , which pivots around , with Nemo at points through the song, climbing on it , sliding and dancing on top . This is quite challenging staging to do because the timings have to be right and then to have to sing at the same time too, with so many different key changes and vocal ranges is another challenge . All credit to Nemo for doing something like this and if they can pull this off on the big night , then their current position in the bookie’s odds are more than merited . I still think Nemo has more up their sleeve for the whole performance.

Czechia

Aiko is dressed in a black outfit with net on the top half . Staging colours are red , blue and black strobes . Her four backing dancers are also in black with sparkly mesh face coverings . There are LED cubes in the backdrop . Aiko looks like she’s enjoying herself on the stage . We await to see the full performance.

Austria

Kaleen is dressed in a black spangly leotard outfit with equally sparkly knee-length boots . She starts on stage in a long , white coat which is removed as the song is sung . She’s joined by 4 male backing dancers wearing black trousers , sleeveless jackets and rather large black glasses .They perform a dance routine , at one point lifting Kaleen up into the air . Strobe effects a plenty on stage. We’ll wait to see what the full performance looks like .

Denmark

Saba has brought her podium from the Danish National final and she has kept to a white outfit . This time she has sand in her pocket which she scatters on stage while performing arm movements .Blue and white lighting , which changes to yellow and bronze and orange, more in keeping with the colour of sand . There’s smoke effects ,trickling sand effects ,flashing lights .LED background like a sandy , cloudy colour .

Armenia

And it’s a lively end to today’s set of rehearsals with Armenia taking to the stage . Jako is wearing a long white shirt with a skirt , there’s red material and some decorations on the outfit. She also wears jewellery . Louis is in grey , with a white shirt . There’s four others on stage wearing various coloured outfits. There are various instruments ranging from flutes , drums, electric guitar , trumpet , bouzaki . There’s a lot going on on that stage and it really does give you a party feeling . This could be one to watch .
