#BIRTHDAY: Ruslana from Ukraine is 49 today

With certain countries in the news for certain reasons, it’s probably important to remember their countrymen and women have birthdays too. And a winner definitely needs celebrating. So a winner from a country in the news, with a birthday, needs a birthday article.

And who is today’s figure? Well it’s Руслана Степанівна Лижичко/Ruslana Stepanivna Lyzhychko, known to us all by her first name. She won for her country at their second attempt, starting a trend that makes Ukraine the country with the most 21st Century wins. Ruslana is still around, making music, advising on all matters Eurovision, and even dabbling in humanitarian work and politics. Not for her was fading away after her win. A true Eurovision legend (even if she did break the stage in Istanbul).
