BIRTHDAY: Alex Sparrow from Russia is 32 today
Our friends in Russia have only had one win, but we know they are after a second. They use the most capable writers, and singers that can mix it with the best. Will that second win come soon? Probably.
But in the search of that second win, there is the odd rogue result. Like the time Russia stayed in the semi-final. Or the times they finished in the teens. Four occasions, and the last one was in 2011. The (un)lucky recipient of this right’hand side of the scorebaord position was today’s birthday boy Alex Sparrow (né Алексей Владимирович Воробьёв/Alexey Vladimirovich Vorobyov). With a stage show that would have made Danny Zuko proud, he wanted to get you. He didn’t get you, but got 77 points instead – the same as Romania, but a little way behind the 98 he would have needed to get on the lovely left-hand side of the scoreboard.
