– This is the first time Tel Aviv has hosted a Eurovision event – and we think the city has done a fantastic job!
– Eurovision 2019 marks only the 2nd time San Marino has made it to a Eurovision final. The other time was back in 2014 with Valentina Monetta’s “Maybe”.
– Israel has hosted Eurovision 3 times since winning the contest for the first time in 1978. Jerusalem hosted Eurovision in both 1979 and 1999.
– Tonight’s show will have 4 hosts: Erez Tal, Bar Refaeli, Assi Azar and Lucy Ayoub. 4 hosts also oversaw proceedings at the contest in 2018 and 2015.
– It’s been 5 long years since we last saw Switzerland, Iceland and San Marino in a Eurovision final – so an extra big congratulations to all of them for qualifying!
– There are 6 automatic finalists for the final every year. These are the Big 5 (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) as well as the host country, who of course this year is Israel.
– North Macedonia’s qualification on Thursday night ends a long drought of not making it to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Their last appearance at a final was 7 years ago in Baku!
– Tonight’s songs are sung in 8 languages. These are English, Albanian, French, Slovene, Icelandic, Italian, Serbian and Spanish. Denmark’s entry also features phrases in German and Danish, while San Marino’s song has 3 words in Turkish!
– Debuting in 2007, Montenegro has the unfortunate distinction of missing out on the final 9 times! Keep trying Montenegro, you’ll get there again one day!
– Of all the countries taking part in tonight’s final, 10 of them have never won the contest before. Malta, Albania, the Czech Republic, San Marino, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Iceland, Belarus and Australia have never lifted that Eurovision trophy before – could that all change tonight for one lucky contestant?
Wherever you are in the world tonight, all of us here at Eurovision Ireland hope that you enjoy the Eurovision Song Contest 2019!
