So this weekend (February 9th), Australia will host their very 1st Australia Decides show, live on the sunny Gold Coast. Having grown up in Australia,
I thought I would give you a little bit of information about the artists who’ll be performing, as well as my own thoughts too – so here are 5 of the artists!
Alfie Arcuri – “To Myself”
Alfie won the 5th season of The Voice Australia in 2016 with coach Delta Goodrem (you may remember Delta as Nina Tucker from Neighbours). His family originates from Italy and he seems like a nice guy. I have not heard much about him but wow, what a lovely voice and I think he’ll give a solid performance.
Aydan Calafiore – “Dust”
Aydan was one of the top 4 finalists in the 7th season of The Voice Australia in 2018. He’s 18 and comes from my hometown of Melbourne. I’m excited about this song, it really surprised me. I do have my concerns with Aydan though, he’s young and Eurovision is a massive platform. Could he handle the pressure if Australia voted for him?
Ella Hooper – “Data Dust”
Ella Hooper (age 35) is an Australian rock singer-songwriter and radio presenter. She is most famously known to Aussie’s as the lead singer of iconic rock band Killing Heidi who sadly broke up in 2006. Ella has an amazing voice and I’m really excited to see her perform. Ella has a lot of experience and I think you’ll see that when she’s performing.
Electric Fields – “2000 and Whatever”
Electric Fields are quite a newish Australian band made up of members Zaachariaha Fielding (former contestant on The Voice Australia and X-Factor) and Michael Ross. Their music is best described as electronic/dance and often feature’s Zaachariaha’s traditional language of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people (an Aboriginal tribe located in the remote north west of South Australia). They have such an interesting sound and I’m intrigued to see how they’ll perform.
Kate Miller-Heidke – “Zero Gravity”
Kate Miller-Heidke is a name that I was very excited to see on the Eurovision list! Like Ella, she has a lot of experience performing which will
work in her favour and she’s is a household name (not for being on X-Factor or The Voice Australia). Kate reminds me a lot of Sinead O’Conner, YouTube “The Last Day on Earth”, probably her most famous song.
Hold tight for the next 5 artists!
