For weeks now, there have been a number of rumours on who would be representing the tiny nation this year – the only hint been it’d be an international singer. For their tenth entry, San Marino have decided to bring back Serhat. San Marino RTV had the following to say:
“When we started to plan the next edition of ESC, we realized that this participation will be our 10th entry. It is a “round” number, an important goal for us, and we thought that we should celebrate our anniversary in Israel, with someone special. We were always in touch with Serhat during the last two years and now after 2016, we are fully empowered and believe that Serhat being full of interesting ideas, is the right choice in the right moment”.
Serhat also had the following to say:
“San Marino is always in my heart, our friendship lasts forever and ESC 2016 was probably one of the best memories of my career. Despite my tight schedule, it didn’t take me long to decide. I am very proud to represent San Marino for the second time”.
Serhat represented San Marino for the first time back in 2016, when the Contest was held in Stockholm. Sadly, he failed to qualify from the semi final with his entry “I Didn’t Know”:
Will Serhat achieve San Marino’s second appearance in a final of the Eurovision Song Contest? This year’s song will be revealed in late February or early March – then it’ll be down to the voting public and national juries in May.
