His name is synonymous with Eurovision in Romania – but Mihai Trăistariu has said he’s dropping out of the National Selection, meaning his song “Baya” is no longer in the running to head to Tel Aviv.
In a statement on Facebook entitled “From #ESC to #Exit”, he said: ” I have decided to withdraw from the competition. Because in this moment, I don’t trust in the objectivity of the Eurovision organisers in Romania,”
He goes on to mention artists who were added later into the selection, yesterday’s Wild Cards, were being shown favouritism.
He ended by saying “I can’t go on a road that has many ” mysteries”. I thank all the fans that have always stood by me and my music and I promise that for me, Eurovision remains a story… without an ending!”
So he may be gone for 2019, but as always Mihai promises us he’ll tornerò – and we hope that some day he does!
