Laura Bretan is a name well-known both in USA and Romania, even though Laura is only 16 years old.
She amazed the audience with her stunning voice on Season 11 of America’s Got Talent (where she finished 6th) and won Romania’s Got Talent in 2016.
Laura Bretan is one of this year’s hopefuls to represent Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv. She qualified for the Semi-Finals with the song “Dear Father” – a song by Mihai Alexandru (composer of Romania’s ESC entries in 2003 and 2017) and lyrics by Alexandra Niculae.
Eurovision Ireland’s senior editor Bogdan had the great pleasure of getting in touch with Laura for a short interview and this is how it went.
Hello Laura and thank you for accepting this interview. First of all we want to congratulate you for submitting a song for Selectia Nationala 2019. We were really surprised to hear you name amongst the participants. What made you decide to take part in this amazing musical competition?
I’ve been watching the show, and I’ve watched many great performances from people around Europe. I thought it would be really awesome to represent Romania. I promised myself that when I would come of age, I would compete. It was a goal of mine.
Can you tell us more about your song and what is its message?
The song is about my father, who I love dearly. And I can’t imagine living a day without him.
What would it mean to you to represent Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv?
To represent Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest would be absolutely incredible!! I am honored to even be considered.
What is your favourite Eurovision song and why?
To pick only one song is really hard, because they’re all unique in their own special way. Picking one would be really difficult.
