Every Monday for the next few weeks, we will be looking back at former participating nations at the Eurovision Song Contest. This week, we look back at Andorra – the only country never to appear in a Eurovision Song Contest final.
Andorra debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004, when the Contest was held in Istanbul, Turkey. Andorra was a handful of countries making their debut in 2004, the year the Contest expanded to include a Semi Final for the first time. Marta Roure represented Andorra in 2004 with her entry “Jugaream a estimate-nos”.
While participating in the Contest, Andorra always sang in the Catalan language. English was partially used in their entries between 2007 and 2009. In 2007, Andorra placed 12th in the Semi Final, their best entry during their participation of the Eurovision Song Contest. Anonymous took part in Helsinki, with their entry “Salvem el mon”.
Andorra have not participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since they last entered in 2009, in Moscow. RTVA, the Andorran broadcaster have yet to show an interest in returning to the Contest – only time will tell.
