#BETTING ODDS – Who is heading for the TOP at the Half-Way Point?

eurovision 2018

We’re half way there everyone! With tonight’s reveals from Cyprus and the Netherlands, we now have 23 out of the 43 songs heading to Lisbon! Hurrah! Have any of them set themselves apart as winners in the eyes of the bookies? Let’s have a look!

Here are the Top 10 contenders for Eurovision 2018 taken from below!

Bulgaria are still leading the odds, and Estonia, Finland and Australia are still holding on to high ranking spots. Russia and Spain are still milling around in the Lower Top 10, while the Czech Republic have jumped from 8th to 2nd since we last reported on the odds. The Netherlands have moved up to 9th following tonight’s reveal (Cyprus are currently at 19th). Sweden have dipped somewhat falling from 3rd to 6th and both Armenia and Belgium have now exited the Top 10.

Rather bizarrely, it’s worth noting that only 4 of the Top 10 in these betting odds actually have songs so far! Maybe the bookies know something we don’t? 😉

At the other end of the table, these countries are thought to have to the lowest odds of winning in Lisbon:

Interestingly, the Bottom 10 has seen a lot of movement with half of the countries that were here previously having moved up and out. Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovenia and Serbia all chose their songs within the last week or so and have all found themselves in the Bottom 10 of these odds. Romania in particular has fallen 2 places to 37th, while Switzerland has sunk (much like a Stone 😉 ) to 43rd. We are also happy to report that Ireland are no longer in the Bottom 10 either!!

While the Top 10 comprises of a lot of countries without songs, it’s worth pointing out that 9 of the Bottom 10 have released their songs… how’s that for a seal of approval? Oops…

According to these collective odds, the scoreboard (ONLY for songs already chosen) looks something like this:

  • Czech Republic
  • Spain
  • Netherlands
  • Italy
  • France
  • Belarus
  • Greece
  • Germany
  • Cyprus
  • Denmark
  • Armenia
  • Ukraine
  • Latvia
  • United Kingdom
  • Moldova
  • Albania
  • Hungary
  • Romania
  • Serbia
  • Malta
  • Slovenia
  • Montenegro
  • Switzerland

Does your Top look something like this? You might be on to something! 😉

What do you think of these odds? Is it possible to accurately predict a winner so far before the contest even starts? Who would you put money on winning Eurovision 2018?

Let us know what you think!

  1. Not at all surprised to see the Czech Republic so high on the list, seeing as it’s my own personal pick to take the trophy this year in Lisbon. I am surprised to see Ukraine so low; I think “Under the Ladder” is a fantastic song that deserves to do very well indeed come May.

I’m also surprised that the nauseating Spanish entry is faring so well with the bookies.
