PBS, the Maltese national broadcaster, has made 2 big announcements today:- firstly, the release of ALL the songs in the Maltese 2018 selection, as well as a big change in the rules of Malta Eurovision Song Contest.
The 16 songs that will take part in MESC for the chance to represent Malta in Lisbon will be released TODAY (January 4th 2018) on their website. You can check out the lyric videos once they are uploaded HERE, along with short bios about the artists – go ahead, have a look!
The other big announcement from PBS concerns a change in the rules of the contest. Originally, the winner of Malta Eurovision Song Contest was to be chosen solely by a public vote, as it was in 2017. Perhaps it was Claudia Faniello’s failure to qualify, or the fact she only won by a tiny margin over Janice Mangion, but only a year after giving all the power to the public, PBS has announced that the juries will be back for 2018 and that their opinions will count for 50% of the vote – not unlike the actual Eurovision Song Contest.
The final of Malta Eurovision Song Contest will take place at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali, Malta on the 3rd of February.
What do you think of these rule changes? Who would you like to see represent Malta? Can they bring the country’s long awaited 1st win?
Let us know what you think!
