#IRELAND: Niamh Kavanagh wins Masterchef
It’s a question often asked: Once you’ve won the Eurovision Song Contest, what else is there? Well, for the winner of the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest in Millstreet, the answer is Masterchef.
Niamh was in the Irish edition of the successful format, and had to compete against nine other celebrities over eight weeks. Among the celebrities she vanquished were former athlete Sonia O’Sullivan and entertainer Samantha Mumba. Samantha has even been a name previously associated with Eurovision.
Niamh’s final challenge was a three-course meal to be cooked in 3½ hours. Her meal of raviolo al uovo to start, ox cheek with horseradish and thyme crumbs to follow, and lime cheesecake to finish all sounds very very yummy. Maybe a new cooking career beckons – us gastronomes at EI would certainly give these dishes a try. Indeed, her starter was the dish of the series.
Her win wasn’t exactly “In your pies” (to quote RTÉ), but her repertoire suggests Ms Kavanagh is good at “All kinds of everything” foody.
