Last night was the final of Rising Star 2017 – the show that selects Israel’s representative for Eurovision Song Contest.
The golden ticket was won by Imri Ziv. He’s no stranger to the Eurovision stage as he was the backing singer for both Nadav Guedj in 2015 and Hovi Star last year in Stockholm.
The live show from last night featured two duels, where each singer battled for a place in the final. The winner of each duel in the first round automatically qualified to the next. The judges then decided who among the two remaining non-qualifiers would proceed to the next stage.
In the first round the contestants performed the following songs:
- Julieta: My Number One (Helena Paparizou)
- Beatbox Element: Hey Mama (David Guetta)
- Diana Golbi: Euphoria (Loreen)
- Imri Ziv: Halo (Beyoncé)
The three qualifiers were:
- Diana Golbi
- Imri Ziv
In the second round the qualifying artists performed the following songs:
- Julieta: Shikorim me’ahava (Eden Ben-Zaken)
- Diana Golbi: Purple Rain (Prince)
- Imri Ziv: Because of You (Kelly Clarkson)
For the final round the votes were in favour of Imri Ziv and Diana Golbi
Imri Ziv received the highest percentage of the viewers’ vote becoming Israel’s 43rd representative at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The song he’ll be singing in Kyiv this May is yet to be decided.
