Two Alleged Video Eurovision Voting Scandals Emerge on YouTube Today
Should the EBU investigate these and report to the public on them as priority?
The Russian Prank TV show ‘Call’ allegedly aired the following segment/video calls on their show. The videos claim the following
“On the 11th May 2016 , two days before the jury voting at the Eurovision song contest, Prank-TV show “Call” impersonated the minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevgeny Nischuk, and telephoned the Minister of culture of Moldova – Monica Babuc, asking her to interfere with the jury voting of Moldova in order for them to give 12 points to Ukraine. As you see in the video the minister agrees to do so and on the final night the jury of Moldova gave 12 points to Ukraine. The show was broadcasted on the 14th of May.”
The second video claims the following
“On the 11th May 2016 , two days before the jury voting at the Eurovision song contest, Prank-TV show “Call” impersonated the minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevgeny Nischuk and telephoned the Minister of culture of Georgia, Mikhail Giorgadze, asking him to interfere with the jury voting of Georgia in order for them to give 12 points to Ukraine. As you see in the video the minister agrees to do so and on the final night the Georgian jury gave its 12 points to Ukraine. The show was broadcasted on the 14th of May”
The story and the videos were posted by the news site ‘Typologies’ – READ HERE – and the videos were uploaded by the website Paron.
As for the legitimacy of the videos that is a matter for the EBU and PWC to investigate and publicly report on. We have forwarded to both parties.
Even though the videos are seemingly from a Prank TV show, do they show a fundamental flaw in the jury voting system? Should the individuals involved be interviewed by the EBU? Should the public be informed of the outcome of the alleged video investigation?
