Welcome one and all to the rolling blog of the 2nd A Dal Semi Final. Whats the betting the running order will have changed lol – and it had!!
Kéne közös kép – Egy Másik Zenekar
Very slow start to this semi and her dress is nothing to write home about in blue either. Egy, I presume her name is, looks straight down the pipes and sings a very slow song to not that great effect but, and this is the key, she’s probably going to get the jury on her side here.
Jury Scores : 7-4-7-9-5. 32 Total
Seven seas – Olivér Berkes & Andi Tóth
Now I didn’t like this song when it was performed the first time round and it’s got better this time round. Their voices don’t gel for me and the rap part of it doesnt seem good enough. they do the standing back to back thing and the height difference is marked. He seems to be mincing round the stage and she is trying too hard… It’s a mess but, sadly, that jury again could well get it through.
Jury Scores : 6-8-5-8-6. 33 points. Into the lead right now but surely not enough.
Why – André Vásáry
A dark and earnest ballad here by the walking Paisley PJ that is Andre. The song isn’t the best bit here but what on earth is he wearing!! – Anyhow, when he remembers to take his face out of the microphone this is, again, trying to be a serious ballad but ends up being a gay laugh fest… If this got to Europe it would be like Deen in 2004 only slightly less talented. He then goes into a falsetto which is currently having me guffawing and his backing singers are all leather clad!! – I don’t know how this got through the Heat, but there is no chance in hell this is Top 3.
Jury Scores : 9-10-9-8-6 – 42 Points ( And I really can’t understand WHY… ba-doum tssss).
Driftin’ – Passed
And now…. Passed. A favourite for the title before all this mentalness started but seems a bit lightweight. I do, however, like the techno harpist in this one, so she scores extra points from me. It’s all a bit static and drum machiny for my liking though, but with balloons on stage and a singer that can actually connect ( even though she can’t put make up on..) It has the potential to score mid 30’s which should be enough in this field.
Jury scores – 6-7-6-7-6. 33 Points.
Love and bass – Laci Gáspár
not content with a harpist, DUNA have given us disco, Magyar style for the next song. Lots of late 70s-80’s guitar and beats with this one and it would not be that far out of a Song for Europe 1986 but then he proceeds to rap for no reason and then big it with the hands. The jury like this one and, hopefully, should lift it above the mediocrity that the rest of this semi has become.
Jury Scores – 8-6-8-7-6 35 points and rockets into 2nd place!
Emlékkép – Mónika Veres Nika
My how the evening is speeding by, as Sir Terence would say, only 4 to go now. Etherial start with a face projected onto her face…. sadly, when the lights came up, it didn’t improve her appearance that much (oooff!). the song, is a typical Eastern European song from circa 1994 Eurovision but, with the modern effects and the bad mud pack, it could do well. It only has to score more than 34 after all!!!
Jury Score : 8-9-8-8-6. 39 Points.
Free to fly – ByTheWay
It’s boy band o’clock in Hungary at the moment. By the Way, who it seems have 3 schoolgirls as their backing singers, but this song doesnt do anything that I wouldnt expect. It’s very VERY formulaic and thats not necessarily a bad thing, especially in this sub par Semi Final… and bytheway are very sub par…..
Jury Score : 6-7-6-7-5. 31 points
Pioneer – Freddie
Possibly the only thing that can stop the march of Kallay Saunders is Freddie. Good looking and singing a song that it very commercial and a touch like “Only teardrops” which is usually a bad thing but I can actually see the credits rolling over this one. It’ll get to the final easily and then it’s real challenge begins.
Jury – 8-10-10-10-9. 47 Points.
Már nem szédülök – Parno Graszt
The Final song tonight is the one from QF3 where the girl cried. It’s more Gypsy.hu than gypsy.cz but it has all the ethnicity you could ever want with dancing men and playing of drums, but after Freddie has blown them all away, this looks like amateur hour.
It needs 40 to qualify. It’s not that good.
Jury Scores : 8-9-9-10-6. 42 points (what!!!)
One more to come by Televote presently.
And that qualifier is : Seven seas – Olivér Berkes & Andi Tóth
Easily Freddie for possibly walking away with the final next week on that performance. Even though the voting system changes next week, he’s a strong contender.
