Eurovision Is Going To Pot – Allocation Draw Details Announced!

It’s been said time and again this contest is going to pot – but this time, it really is true! A date for our diaries Eurovision fans! The Semi Final Allocation Draw is going to take place on Monday 25th of January – at 11:15am CET precisely in Stockholm!

Hosted by SVT regulars Alexandra Pascalidou and Jovan Radomir, the event will take place at Stockholm City Hall to decide which countries will take part in which semi-final come May. On top of this, it will also be decided which semi-final the 6 finalists – France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, with host nation Sweden – will vote in.

The running order of the semis, including which half of the show countries will perform in, will be decided by a draw later in the year. Only Israel is confirmed to be taking part in the 2nd semi-final on 12th May as the 1st semi-final (on 10th May) clashes with the nation’s Memorial Day. Based on their voting patterns in previous editions of Eurovision, the 37 semi-finalists have been split into 6 pots to try and lessen the impact of bloc voting. This year, the pots are:-

Pot #1

  • Albania
  • Macedonia
  • Montenegro
  • Slovenia
  • Croatia
  • Serbia
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina

Pot #2

  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Norway
  • Iceland
  • Estonia
  • Latvia

Pot #3

  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus
  • Georgia
  • Russia
  • Ukraine

Pot #4

  • Belgium
  • Cyprus
  • Greece
  • Australia
  • The Netherlands
  • Bulgaria

Pot #5

  • Czech Republic
  • Lithuania
  • Ireland
  • Malta
  • Poland
  • San Marino

Pot #6

  • Austria
  • Hungary
  • Israel
  • Moldova
  • Romania
  • Switzerland

During the draw, last year’s host city Vienna will also formally hand over the Host City Insignia to Stockholm and the official artwork and slogan for Eurovision 2016 will be revealed – exciting stuff, we can’t wait!

Out of these 37 countries, only 26 will take part in the Grand Final May 14th. What would be the best countries to have in your semi-final? Which countries do you hope to be able to vote for? What do you think makes a good new Eurovision slogan?
