10 Reasons Why Nicky Byrne can win the Eurovision for Ireland
Nicky Byrne’s Eurovision song was only revealed a week ago but he is already one of the favourites to win. Here at Eurovision Ireland we believe that the former Westlife star has got what is takes! Here’s why:
⦁ Nicky has had one hell of a singing career
We all first fell in love in Nicky Byrne as the young heartthrob from Westlife. Byrne joined Westlife along with Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan and Brian McFadden. With Westlife, Nicky was a global success.
The band have had 25 top ten UK singles, 14 of which, were number one, 7 number one albums and have sold over 45 million records worldwide.
⦁ He has the looks
Nicky is the deal when it comes to being a popstar. There’s no denying he’s got the looks. His cheeky smile is bound to draw voters in. Eurovision viewers are bound to love him.
⦁ He’s an all-round nice guy
Nicky Byrne is well known for his charitable work. In 2010, Nicky and his family organised the ‘Nikki Byrne Twilight Ball’, a fundraising event, in memory of his father who died in November 2009. The event raised over €200,000 and completely funded a television and radio heart attack awareness campaign in connection with ‘The Irish Heart Foundation’.
Nicky and his wife Georgina, have also shown their continued support to the Irish Premature Babies charity. Nicky has also taken part in several UNICEF Campaigns, such as the UNICEF ‘Euro for Zero’ campaign. He has taken part in Soccer Aid three times, a biennial British charity event that has raised over £15 million in aid of UNICEF UK. The event is a football match between two teams of celebrities and former professional players, representing England and the Rest of the World. I don’t know about you, but here at Eurovision Ireland we’ve been playing Sunlight on repeat! It’s such a catchy song I’m sure Eurovision viewers will fall in love with it. It’s Booty Shakin’ time here!
⦁ He just singed a major record deal
The Dublin star has been offered a record deal with top record company Universal Music, so this single is the first of many to come.
⦁ Great singing voice
All it takes is to listen to Nicky’s Eurovision entry to prove how great his singing voice is. His incredible success with Westlife reflects how great a singer and performer he is.
⦁ He has killer dance moves
When Nicky competed in Strictly Come Dancing in 2012 viewers were amazed at his dancing skills. He proved a huge hit on the show, narrowly missing out on the semi-final.
⦁ He’s a great songwriter
Nicky co-wrote Sunlight with Wayne Hector and Ronan Hardiman. Hector was written for artist such as One Direction and Britney Spears. Hardiman is the man behind the soundtracks for Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance and Feet of Flames shows.
He may have had an amazing team with him but there no denying Nicky’s song writing skills as he also co-wrote many of Westlife’s songs.
⦁ He already has an accomplished TV and radio career
The fact that Nicky Byrne is so well known and loved globally could be a huge advantage. Nicky has had a hugely successful TV and radio career. He has appeared on Children in Need and Comic Relief several times. In 2001, he co-hosted Children in Need. Byrne has also hosted the Cheerios ChildLine Concert seven times.
In addition, Byrne presented several editions of the Celebrity Sunday radio programme on RTÉ 2fm in 2010. He was a resounding success with listeners tuning in from the likes of Mexico, Chile, the United Kingdom, Philippines and Indonesia. FM104 publicly offered him a job the day Westlife split. In 2013, 2014 and 2015, Byrne presented the Irish votes at the Eurovision Song Contest. On 4 February 2014, Byrne signed a contract with RTÉ 2fm to host a new weekday show from 11am to 2pm. His show is hugely popular and has a solid listenership

His song Sunlight has had an impressive 150,000 views so far.
