RUSSIA: Our thoughts on how Polina Gagarina should stage her Eurovision entry ‘A Million Voices’

So here are some more first thoughts on ‘How Should They Stage their song at Eurovision 2015’?

Having won the contest in 2008, Russia have had mixed fortunes in recent years at The Eurovision Song Contest, coming closest since that victory, with ‘Party For Everybody’ by Buranovskiye Babushki in 2012, coming 2nd place in the final.

This year Russia have chosen Polina Gagarina to represent them in Vienna with a beautiful ballad ‘A Million Voices’. Russia’s involvement in Eurovision tends to cause some controversy amongst many fans due to political and human rights issues, however I am here to discuss the staging of the song and how I think it will do in Vienna.

Polina should keep everything simple on the stage. The song is a stunning ballad and her vocal is brilliant. This does not need a circus going on around it and should be about her vocal and simple stage lighting. I imagine that the dress and staging will be white and I would expect for their to be backing singers helping bring the song to its crescendo at the end. A spotlight on Polina at the beginning would be effective, slowly bringing in backing singers as the song builds.

A well-known singer, songwriter and actress in Russia, Polina will be no stranger to the spotlight and it should stand her in good stead. It is almost guaranteed that many audience members will attempt to stage protests and booing will be rife within the arena as it was for the Tolmachevy Sisters last year in Copenhagen and hopefully she will be able to rise above it all and give a spine tingling performance on the night. This song should sail through the semifinal and should be a good bet for top 5 on the night of the final. You can see the offical video for ‘A Million Voices’ here

These are my thoughts about how ‘A Million Voices’ should look in Vienna but

What do you think?

  1. She is amazing vocally and I agree it should all be focussed on her but it is Russia and I suspect there will be props or some sort of gadgetry that will totally detract from Polina. I only hope that this is a ‘pure’ performance, as this is one of the best songs this year and the staging could take it from top 5 to us all going to Moscow in 2016…
