Reports : Portugal – Who says ‘Yes’ and who says ‘No’ to wanting to participate in the Festival da Canção?

RTP announced last week that they will use the Festival da Canção to select their Eurovision 2015 representative.

On the back of this news several Portuguese singers have said if they would be interested in participating in the festival and at Eurovision.

Rui Drumond

Rui Drumond will be no stranger to Eurovision fans. He represented Portugal at Eurovision 2005 along with Luciana Abreu. They sand the song ‘Amar’ or ‘Love’. They finished 17th in the Semi Final and did not progress to the Grand final.

Rui said “the door is open” to return “but that it is very dependent on the song.”

Rui went on to win ‘The Voice of Portugal’ in 2014 so he is highly popular at the moment.

Ricardo Soler

Ricado came 4th in the Portuguese Eurovision National selection in 2012 with the song “Gratia plena” and in 2008 with “Canção pop” . Speaking on a return to the Portuguese National selection he said

“I will not return to participate in the Festival Song following my presence at festivals in 2012 with Gratia Plena“.

However he said that his entries at the festival “were very important and a learning that (he) will always remember.”

Filipe Delgado

Filipe participated in the Portuguese National selection in 2010 with the song “Serei eu”. He missed out on a place in the National final. However his career has been highly successful since then.

He is the author of “Exchanged Life” and a cast member of the soap opera ‘Crossed Destinations’ in Portugal.

He said depending on the proposed invitation “I would like to participate with a good song, and who knows win Eurovision for my country.”

So who would you like to see participate in the Festival da Canção? Who could bring a strong performance for Portugal to Vienna? Is this the year that Portugal eventually gets their long overdue win at Eurovision?
