Poland “busted” out of the semi-final this year at Eurovision and made the Grand Final with the highly infectious and up front “My Słowianie – We Are Slavic”. By far one of the most enjoyable moments at the contest this year.

The success at Eurovision is followed up by Donatan and Cleo’s new single ‘Slavica’. If Eurovision was about the brassiere then ‘Slavica’ is about the Derriére. Another hip-hop stomping song with Cleo’s vocals strong and powerful.

Today Donatan has released the ‘Making Of’ video for ‘Slavica’. A 4 minute video showing what it took to make the video for song. No stone or piece of clothing was left unturned for this fly in the wall video.

Reading some of the comments on YouTube, some see this as exploitation and others see it as being business savvy. Whether you agree or not we live in an age where “sex sells”. From music videos, to cars to chocolate – so much marketing is centred around a provocative image. Who dictates what is sexy? Who dictates what sells and more importantly who dictates if something is successful? I guess we do when we buy the car, the song or the magazine. How many times a day are the Kardashian’s on our TV screens in a little clothing as possible?

I think one needs to look at the history of Hip-Hop and Media in general. Hugh Hefner has been promoting the female form for decades. Marilyn Monroe was seen as being overtly sexual in her time. Is it that we live in a fast paced social media society where people expect more? Less subtle and more overt images?

What struck me in the ‘Making Of’ video – besides the obvious – was the number of women working behind the camera. What has always been clear is that Donatan sees Cleo as his muse and his “equal” when they work together. He has said that 2014 is the “Year of Cleo”.

So I open the floor to you all. Let us know what you think? Are people afraid of the human form or is there a line that shouldn’t be crossed? Take our poll.
