Eurovision 2009 and 2012 have collided in a musical abyss. Ukraine’s Eurovision 2009 contestant Svetlana Loboda has teamed up with Emin who descended from the Azeri sky as the Eurovision 2012 Interval Act.
Loboda, as she is known these days, has become a major player in the Ukrainian music scene. Never afraid to use her image in a provocative way, this duet “You Look At The Sky” is no different. With a voiceover that lasts about 90 seconds one is left waiting for the song to begin yet seeing a video backdrop that sets the scene for that classic love story of 2 people from the opposite side of the tracks that have loved and lost yet one cannot seem to move on.
It is no surprise that Svetlana is the one that has moved on judging from her bedroom gymnastics with her new partner that seem to enrage the normally placid and well-mannered Emin to take a sledgehammer to one Loboda’s bedroom wall. Is this a Friday the 13th music video? Unfortunately not. Merely Eastern European Melodrama with beautiful looking people.
This song is at best inoffensive and not as interesting when compared to say some of Loboda’s former #1’s like “40 Gradusov” for instance.
Not so much “Be My Valentine” but more “Be My Bob the Builder”.
What do you think of the collaboration?
