Eurovision Winner 2014, Conchita Wurst, gave a free open air concert today in Vienna. Over 10 thousand fans crammed into the centre of Vienna to welcome back their victorious Eurovision star.

Conchita performed five songs “Believe” by Cher, “That’s What I Am”, then her Eurovision Song Contest winning song “Rise Like a Phoenix”. That was followed by “My Heart Will Go on” by Celine Dion that brought her to fame in Austria in the 2012 selection. The crowd then called for an encore of “Rise Like a Phoenix”.

Wurst was celebrated at an official ceremony hosted by Chancellor Werner Faymann and Minister of Culture Josef Ostermayer. They had wanted Conchita to sing from the balcony where the reception was being held but Conchita was determined to be as close to the fans as possible and so a stage was erected.

Conchita dedicated her victory again to

“those people who believe in a future with progress that requires no discrimination, no hatred. And I am convinced that Austria is one of those countries.”

Here is a link to the reprise of “Rise Like A Phoenix” where the fans joined it – See HERE

For all that didn’t “Believe” – this is wonderfully ironic 😉

Here is the concert in full with the interviews also.

Were you there at the concert? Let us know what it was like.

  1. Good for her, am delighted she’s garnered so much positivity, puts those bigoted noses right out of joint.
