Firelight have taken to the stage for Malta at Eurovision. You will all know that I have an affinity with the Maltese entry and this year is no exception. They have just had their first rehearsal on the Eurovision stage and they were #AMAZING!
I have said for so long now that Malta has been underrated and thankfully the Press Centre gave “Coming Home” the biggest reaction of all the songs performed over the past two days.
Authentic and engaging is what “Firelight” were. Lead singer Richard was thoroughly on point with his camera angles and Michelle’s harmonies and key change elevated the song to a new level.
The backdrop for the song is a stunning “Poppy Field” that evokes the sentiment of the song where soldiers and loved ones are coming. The touch of the photographs of loved ones on the screen brings the song together.
If I had one suggestion it would be for Richard to move towards the audience during the song ushering the camera to follow him as if you are “Coming Home”.
For a first rehearsal this was by far the most well prepared and engaging that I have seen so far. Sitting here in the Press Centre many were saying “Are PBS prepared to host both the Eurovision and Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the same 12 months? I would say yes!
