Gianluca from  Malta is on the Eurovision Stage as I type and my fingers cannot keep up with my thoughts. This has to be the happy feel good song of the contest and will make Eurovision 2013 the biggest Karaoke stage in the world – so The Guinness Book of World Records better be ready to present him with his award.

Staging

Yes the backdrop to the Maltese song this year are the lyrics of the song and it works extremely well. The stage colour changes from green’s, blue’s and yellows and adds a warm feeling to the performance. Dressed in tan trousers, black waist coat and white shirt, it fits into the casual feel of the song and performance. Gianluca is joined on stage by the people who have appeared in the video for his song and they are all relaxed on camera. I want some of their tranquillity.

Vocals

Vocally Gianluca is spot on, though on the first run through of the song his vocals were ahead of the track. This was due to a problem with his ear piece. However this was rectified for the second run through of the song . He is one of the few artists who uses the catwalk and walks up into the audience to join the fans. It is a brief visit and I personally feel he should do this earlier in the song so he can encourage the audience to clap and sing along to the “Oh Ohss” because he now looks like he is just running up and running back to the main stage.

Gianluca has bags of charisma and is so appealing on camera that they should have more close up’s on him as he will ensure points for Malta. His interaction with the band is organic and like in the official video it is like a group of friends meeting for a catch up. If you don’t like this song then you heart is made of stone!

Final Analysis

Cruising into the final with some minor adjustments and is a good contender. One is positively chipper after that performance.
