Dame Olivia Newton -John ( 26.9. 1948 -08.08.2022) UK

From a UK point of view, probably one of the saddest departures of 2022. Olivia was born in Cambridge,UK but grew up in Australia . As well as being well known in the UK and the rest of the world for the very successful film “Grease” and later, Xanadu , she is also remembered for representing the UK at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton , the year of Abba’s win. She came 4th with the song ” Long Live Love “, a song she later admitted wasn’t her preferred choice from the national song selection. Olivia had been fighting cancer for several years but unfortunately the time came where she could no longer fight it and she passed away at her home in California on 8th August 2022 aged 73.

We at Eurovision Ireland would like to send our condolences to the families and friends of those lost in 2022 .

Keep a look out for Part 2 of our Eurovision Obituary in the coming days .
