#JESC22: Sweden Will Not Return In Yerevan

SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster, have confirmed that they will not be returning for the 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in Yerevan, Armenia.

SVT have not given a specific reason for their non-participation this year. Back in 2020, Safa Safiyari, Manager of SVT Barn, had the following to say:

“After the break that was taken in 2014, we have raised the question on several occasions and tested whether the break should continue or not, basically it has happened every two years. But as the offer constantly evolves, we have come to the conclusion that The Junior Eurovision Song Contest does not fit the mix we want in our content. In any case, not the total offer. The door has not been completely closed to participate in the future.”

TV4, the Swedish commercial broadcaster, participated in 2006, 2007 and 2009. TV4, however, ENDED their European Broadcasting Union membership back in 2019 – therefore are no longer allowed to participate in any EBU events.
