#BIRTHDAY: Esther Hart from the Netherlands is 51 today

We’re still reeling from an excellent contest in Rotterdam last month. It proved that the Dutch have an idea of what Eurovision is about, even though the results weren’t always what they wanted.

Today’s birthday girl Esther Hart (née Esther Katinka Hartkamp) is one of those Dutch singers who knew what they were doing. But as we know, almost each contest can only have one winner, and Esther was collateral damage in Turkey’s win. Esther was almost down to try to represent the UK in the same contest. Maybe she had a lucky escape. It was a tough year, and many of her points came from the countries using juries and not the televotes. Who knows how that would have played out today.
