#AUSTRALIA: It’s Jessica Mauboy for Lisbon!
Those early rumours of an Australian national final have proven unfounded, again. Broadcaster SBS has revealed that it will be sending Jessica Mauboy half way across the world to represent Australia in Lisbon.
The fourth entrant for Australia has actually been on a Eurovision stage already. Back in Copenhagen in 2014, she was the interval act during the second semi-final. So it was possible that she’d though her time had come and gone. But not so. She’s back, and this time it’s competitive. First, here’s her time on stage in Copenhagen.
Jessica is from Darwin at the ‘top end’ of Australia, where it’s always humid. She might therefore almost suit the warm condition in the host city next May. She made her name, as have many Eurovision performers, the ‘Idol’ route. She finished as the runner-up to the fourth series of Australian Idol, and made it to the Grand Final at Sydney Opera House. Here’s her performance in that final of ‘Night of my life’.
There are no details of Jessica’s song yet, but we understand that she will co-write it.
Australia has participated three times to date, and has had three top-ten finishes, including a runners-up spot in 2016.
What would you like to see in Jessica’s song? A ballad? Something uptempo? Or something else? Tell us what you think.
We at Eurovision Ireland wish Australia and SBS the best of luck in Lisbon.
