Tonight the 67th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival was won by Francesco Gabbani with “Occidentali’s Karma”. Gabbani also won the newcomer’s category of the same contest last year.

Traditionally, the winner of Sanremo also represents Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest, though in recent years (even last year!) several artists have declined to do so.

In the event of this, one of the other contestants seen tonight will be selected to go to Kyiv instead and an announcement will be made shortly.

But for tonight, it seems Francesco Gabbani is heading to Ukraine to fly the Italian flag at Eurovision!
