Eurovision Ireland are here in Malta to cover the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Valetta. The rehearsals begin on Tuesday 15th November and run for 4 days. So in advance of that and in a similar vein to articles published for the main Eurovision I am going to look at each participating country and highlight their entry this year and look back at their history in JESC. There are 17 countries competing in JESC 2016 and I will look at each country in a brief series of 4 articles in the coming few days. This article will look at Macedonia, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. You can check out the other articles in this JESC series on the Eurovision Ireland website.
Macedonia are appearing in their twelfth Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result has been 5th in both 2007 and 2008. This year Macedonia are represented by Martija Stanojkovic who is 12 years old and is from Skopje. When she was 4 she joined a dance club called Ultra and they in fact join her on the JESC stage. Her song is called Love Will Lead Our Way (Ljubovta ne void).
“LOVE IS LEADING US
WHEN YOU WANT SOMETHING STRONGLY
FOR SURE IT WILL COME ONE DAY”
So we also take a look back at the song that gave Macedonia it’s best result both in placing and points. Rosica Kulakova & Dimitar Stojmenovski were the singers in 2007 and the song was called Ding Ding Dong.
Poland are making only their third appearance in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Unfortunately they have a dismal record so far finishing last both previous times in 2003 and 2004. So they will have high hopes this year for a big improvement and are represented by Olivia Wieczorek who is 14 years old. Her song is called Nie Zapomnij (Don’t Forget).
“DON’T FORGET HOW TO BE CLOSE
SIDE BY SIDE UNDER THE TREETOPS
DON’T FORGET WHAT IT ALL IS FOR
WHEN THE TURMOIL SURROUNDS US”
So we also take a look back to 2003 when Poland made their debut in JESC. It was sung by Katarzyna Żurawik and the song was called “Coś mnie nosi”.
Russia are appearing in their twelfth Junior Eurovision Song Contest. They have a good track record in JESC having won it in 2006 and come 2nd twice too. This year they are represented by an all girl group calling themselves The Water of Life Project. The lead vocalist is Sofia and she is joined in this collaboration by Sasha(13) and sisters Christina(13) and Madonna(11). Their song is called Water of Life.
” I PRAY FOR THE MOMENT WHEN
EVERYBODY FINDS LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS
SADNESS IS FAR AWAY AND
I’M NOT AFRAID ANYMORE WHEN YOU’RE WITH ME
MY VOICE IS SPREAD ALL OVER
THE EARTH LIKE CRYSTAL PURE WATER”
So we also take a look back at the song that gave Russia their only win to date. It was 2006 when we saw The Tolmachevy Twins win with the song titled Vesenniy jazz. We of course since seen the twins move up into adult Eurovision and represented Russia there too.
Ukraine are appearing in their eleventh Junior Eurovision Song Contest. They have hosted the contest twice both in Kiev and have won the contest in 2012 as well as coming twice on two occasions too. This year Ukraine are represented by Sofia Rol who is 14 and from Kiev. Her song is called Planet Craves For Love.
“YOU WILL SEE ME RISING, LIKE BUTTERFLY
AS I SPREAD MY WINGS, SET FOR THE SKY.
I KNOW IN MY HEART THIS PLANET CRAVES FOR LOVE”
So we also take a look back at the song that won for Ukraine in 2012. It was sung by Anastasiya Petryk and the song was titled Nebo.
So there we have it folks, my second look at some of this years countries participating in
Junior Eurovision 2016 in Valletta.
This article will be followed by another two highlighting some more of this years
participants both now and in the past.
