Can Ukraine afford to host Eurovision 2017? How much will it cost? Will it be hosted in Kiev in 2017?
Jamala had not even touched down back in Ukraine following her victory at Eurovision 2016 when questions were being asked if Ukrainian broadcaster were ready to host the 3 live show contest in 2017.
Jaanika Merilo, Advisor to the Minister for Economic Development, has resoundingly said that Ukraine is ready to host and more importantly can afford to host the 2017 contest!
Speaking on BBC Ukraine the message was clear that the contest would be held in Ukraine in 2017. What is clear is that the plan will be to return to a smaller scaled contest than that of Stockholm this year.
The models that potentially could be used by Ukraine will be in line with that of Estonia in 2002 and Sweden in 2013.
Where might the contest be held?
The speculated use of the Olympic stadium in Kiev being given a roof for a huge contest, looks to be a step too far according to the article. Other cities mentioned as host cities are Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa. The fourth city of Lviv seems to be ruled out due the lack of current infrastructure.
What is clear is that Ukraine have a desire to make a decision on the location of Eurovision 2017 known sooner rather than later so that preparations can begin.
Where would you like to see Eurovision 2017 take place?
