“Big is Beautiful” as I say all the time! A few weeks back we told you that Melodifestivalen was potentially set for changes well they have been announced.
Yes we were correct in saying that the 4 heats will be reduced from 8 to 7 songs. This means that there will be 28 songs in this year’s Melodifestivalen as opposed to the normal 32.
The top 2 songs from each heat will proceed directly to the Grand Final and the songs in 3rd and 4th place will qualify for the second chance semi final.
However this is the big change!
Instead of their being 2 sets of duels in the Second chance round there will only be one round. This means that 4 songs will now qualify from the Second Chance Round and go to the grand final. The Grand Final of Melodifestivalen will have 12 songs as opposed to 10 songs competing for the right to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2015.
Furthermore people at home will be able to vote for their favourite songs 20 times from the same number – very Eurovision!
You have to go back to 1997 to find a Swedish final of 12 acts competing. That time around 3 ‘Blond’ men sang ‘Bara hon älskar mig’ where the finished 14th at the contest in Dublin.
What do you think of the Bigger Melodifestivalen Grand Final? We have our thoughts on who we would like to see enter the contest. What about you?
