Melodifestivalen 2014 is shaping up to be a serious “name dropping” event according to Swedish news reports today. Greek Eurovision winner Elena Paparizou along with Elisa Lindström, Yohio and Dr Alban have been cited as being ready to participate in the Swedish Eurovision Selection for 2014.

According to Swedish news agency Aftonbladet, Elena Paparizou is set to make her Melodifestivalen début with a dance song written by Pop supremo team Bobby LjunggrenHenrik Wikström and Sharon Vaughn. Elena came third at Eurovision 2001 with Group Antique and then won the contest in 2005.

Elisa Lindström who won”Dansbandskampen” with the band Elisa and also “Clash of the Choirs” last season, is also reported by Aftondladet to be ready make her début at Melodifestivalen next year. Her song is described as “a real schlager song à la Linda Ronstad”. Schlager and Linda Ronstad are two names that I though I would never hear in the same sentence.

90’s rap star Dr Alban is set to make an appearance at Melodifestivalen 2014 in a duet with another 90’s singer – not yet uncovered name by Aftonbladte. “It’s My Life” and we certainly are enjoying these rumours!

Finally Yohio who was the Swedish Public selection for Eurovision Last year – is set to return to Melodifestivalen next year with a song composed by Andreas Johnnson and Peter-Five.

That line up would be worthy enough to gain interest from across most of Europe – and Melodifestivalen is still several months away.

We know that Elena Paparizou is very well-known in Sweden and partly lives and works there – but do you think the Swedish Public would vote for her at Melodifestivalen?

    • Nothing would make me happier to see Alcazar represent Sweden at ESC – Stay The Night, Headlines, Sinner Not A Saint, Alcstar – All Amazing and should have made ESC. We saw them play in Malmo – Dream come true. I was literally “Crying at the Discoteqque” with joy

      • omg!! Lucky. I became aware of them just this year cause it was my first time watching all the NFs & really getting into the contest. Such catchy tunes! They definitely deserve a chance at Eurovision.

  1. “Linda Ronstadt” is what Google Translate gives you when you translate “Linda Bengtzing” from Swedish to English 🙂
