The BBC yesterday evening confirmed that they will be participating at Eurovision 2014. No details as of yet how they will select their act and song for Copenhagen. Since 2011 they have selected their entry internally with their best result being Blue and their song “I Can” in 2011.

Since then the BBC has pinned their Eurovision hopes on big named stars from the past – Englebert Humperdinck and Bonnie Tyler – with little success. Will the BBC go for a National or Internal Selection? Well if they need inspiration, then they need look no further than Manchester this weekend. The UK Branch of OGAE – Eurovision Official Fan Club – will be hosting the UK Eurobash 2013. This will be a star-studded weekend of Eurovision music and memories.

What have they in store?

There is the UK OGAE AGM which is then followed by the “Big Eurovision Quiz”. It gets competitive on teams so expect the competition to the fierce.

Then they have 3 Eurovision guests who will be doing a Q&A session with the fans as well as performing! This year the Uk’s own Josh Dubovie – now known as Josh James – will be talking of his 2010 experience at Eurovision – “That Sounds Good To Me”.

Next there is Slovenia’s 2011 representative Maja Keuc, who brought her country to the Grand Final of Eurovision with the song “No One”

Finally there will be Zita Kaminska – Head of Delegation for Latvia. She’ll answer all those burning questions about the highs and lows of being Head of Delegation.

Following this there is the amazing Euro Stars competition where fans have been perfecting their homage to Eurovision Legends and will perform live in for the several hundred lucky fans in attendance. Following the voting and the winner’s reprise, there will be the Eurovision Disco until the small hours of the morning.

Organised by Paul Mark-Jones (UK OGAE President) and his trusty team again – you have to ask the question – “Why Doesn’t the BBC let Mark and the Team organise the UK’s Eurovision Selection?

Good luck to UK OGAE and we hope they have another “Legendary” Eurobash. We will have our reporters Elaine Dove and John Stanton on site to get all the juicy inside news for you ie Who was cheating at the Eurovision Quiz and “buying points” for their team!
