Eurovision winner 2013 Emmelie de Forest, has just released the video for her Eurovision follow-up song “Hunter and Prey”. The song also seems to have come on leaps and bounds from the acoustic version that was available so far on video.
There is a subtle 80’s electronic voice over vibe to the song now – and for all you of an older generation you will appreciate that! It still has enough “Yay Yay Eh Ohs” that you know that this is Emmelie. Dare I say it – I prefer “Hunter and Prey” to “Only Teardrops” as the song has small nuances to it that make it interesting for me. Not so much song writing by numbers but more organic.
As for the video, well Emmelie looks beautiful as always in her now trademark earthy yet ethereal look. Directed by Nicolas Tobias Følsgaard with the second Director being Jonas Lodahl Andersen. The Danish countryside – in this case Danish island of Sejerø – looks stunning as it plays a character almost in the video. Emmelie is singing to a childhood memory of her and her first love. We have all been there! We still have her 2 sturdy drummers beating away, but this time no prominent tin whistle. A blessing to my ears as they gave them out in the press centre in Malmo – and every journalist thought they could play the instrument!
I truly have to eat my words here as I thought that Emmelie might not be able to follow-up her Eurovision impact back in May. However this song and video gets my vote and a download tonight from me!
It will be interesting to see if the song now charts across Europe with the release of the video. It deserves to!
