Hungary’s “ByeAlex” has taken to the stage for their first dress rehearsal of their Eurovision entry “Kedvesem”. Like some of the countries this year, they have used their official video for the backdrop of their performance. In case you have not seen the video it is a beautiful animated affair.
On stage the Lead singer is standing for the performance, the guitarist on a stool and a female backing singer to the right of Alex. It is all understated – that I like. The stage is lit in tones of Greens. Very little direct eye contact with the camera but that actually works for the performance. In the first 2 run throughs of the song, they kept to the melody that we have all been familiar with. However on the third rehearsal they amended the melody and on several occasions in the verses and changed the key of the song – like what Ott Lepland did last year with the Estonian song. However this does not sit well with Hungary and the gathered press gasped. Our suggestion is to stick to the simple melody to fit in with the easy listening feel of the song.
This is a song that you can easily sway along while listening to it, but will it have enough impact to make you pick up your telephone and vote for them? I think this will score better with the Juries and could sneak into the final. It is a good contract to Armenia before it which could help their chances.
