Romania 2013 : Semi Finals Announced

The Eurovision season is well and truly amongst us. With less than a month to go before all participating countries have to enter their selection for Malmo 2013 there has been a flurry of activity around the continent. Romania is the latest country to announce final details of its own national song contest, the winner of which will enter the stage in Malmo in the second half of semi final 2 on 16th May 2013.

TVR, the Romanian broadcaster has announced that 32 songs will now compete over the weekend of the 23/24 of February with 12 songs progressing to a grand final on the 09th March 2012.

TVR had initially announced that 28 songs would compete in the national selection process, however, due to the ‘high quality’ of submissions received; TVR has extended the limit by 4 to 32 songs altogether. That’s a marathon of songs by anyone’s standards and indicates how seriously Romania takes the contest.

For the first time, TVR have opened up the selection criteria to allow composers from all over Europe to submit songs to the national contest. Each semi-final and the final will be decided by a 50/50 mix of jury and popular vote. One of my favourite entries from Romania’s recent participation; Paula Seling and Ovi will present all 3 shows, which will be broadcast live and TVR and TVR+ and on Eurovision.tv. Most of the participants have uploaded their songs on Youtube and TVR will officially present all 32 songs on Monday 18th February.
