So who will represent Hungary at Eurovision 2013? The past couple of years have seen this nation qualify to the final and with big expectations back in 2011 it was thought that Eurovision 2012 could have seen the contest broadcast from the country itself. However that “fairytale” never came to pass.
So what does 2013 hold in store? Well MTV – National Broadcaster in Hungary – announced the final 30 songs/artists that were to compete in the selection process – 2 semi finals and a grand final. However in the space of 24 hours 3 songs have been withdrawn on the grounds that they were released before the September 1st EBU guidelines. So the revised 30 songs are as follows
- Plastikhead feat Laci Gáspár – A szeretet él
- Peti Puskás – Amíg a tűz ég
- Gergő Rácz – Csak állj mellém
- Gabi Völgyesi – Csak te légy
- Tamás Palcsó – Ezt látnod kell
- Laura Cserpes – Élj pont úgy
- Ádám Szabó – Hadd legyen más!
- Tamás Vastag – Holnaptól
- Mónika Hoffman – Hullócsillag
- Gergő Baricz – Húz
- Mrs Columbo – Játszd újra
- Bye Alex – Kedvesem
- Gyula Éliás – Mindhalálig várni rád
- András Kállay Saunders – My baby
- Odett – Ne engedj el
- Ildikó Keresztes – Nem akarok többé játszani
- Fatima Mohamed – Nem baj
- Background – Neonzöld
- Zoltán Fehér – Nincs baj
- Tibor Gyurcsík – Örök harc
- Rami – Puzzle
The band másik zenekar was withdrawn from the list of acts for breach of the September 1st rule and replaced by Laura Cserpes who will perform the song “Élj pont úgy”.
Another artist that withdrew of her own accord, was Szirtes Edina Mókus who was meant to be performing ”Ha virág lennék”. She said that upon hearing that she had been selected for the Hungarian National Final that she contacted the National Broadcaster herself and said that she feared her song was in breach of the September 1st deadline. She believed that she had performed the song at one of her own concerts, even though not in its final completed format. MTV and Szirtes took the decision to remove the song from the selection process.
Now I have looked on YouTube and could not find a clip of the song on-line. This is where there could be confusion across Europe regarding the September 1st deadline. As we have reported twice now – Mobilee in the German National Selection with their song “Little Sister” had been on German Radio and Internet shows performing thier song in its unfinished state back in April of 2012 – clearly before the September 1st cut off-line.
NDR have said that as it was not the final version of the song and that very few people had seen the clip. Under the Reference Committee Guidance – they were allowed to keep the song in their National Final. If the Reference Committee approve this then I am happy to abide by their decision. My question is – “why can’t the same ruling be applied to Edina Mókus and her song ”Ha virág lennék”?
There seems to be some confusion in regards the interpretation of the September 1st guidance from country to country and maybe this should be clarified by the EBU to avoid any other artists being withdrawn from their National selection and to ensure parity across all participant countries at Eurovision.
