Croatia has had a run of indifferent luck at Eurovision from when they first started in the contest – making the Top 10 on several occasions. With failure to qualify this year and with a Big named Act, the national broadcaster HRT has now advised that they will this year not have the selection through the Dora Song Contest but that it will be an internal selection process.
The Broadcaster has said that it wants to receive submissions from artists and composers and the internally select a song and have it performed in a Klapa style/band. However it is now being reported that a completely traditional Klapa performance is not what HRT is seeking. Instead they are seeking a pop song with Klapa elements.
Is this a wise move from Croatia – Can it work and has there been a contemporary Pop/Klapa act before in Croatia?
